As above I get Very slow gotos when Ustep Gear Changing is disabled, microstep level is set to 32 ustep. Is this correct behaviour, and can I just safely increase the goto speed if it is?

I'm using the beta firmware and config. Apologies if this is a daft question.

AstroEQ Support / Which motor driver IC?
« on: March 16, 2017, 13:40:15 »
Hi, in the FAQ's in says to use DRV8824/5 in the motor IC dropdown menu. That setting is no longer there, which one do I select?

AstroEQ Support / Goto Inaccuracy, Missed Steps?
« on: March 09, 2017, 01:40:25 »
Hi. When using my Vixen GP tonight the gotos were way out and got worse the further the stars were from each other. I caught a few dull, quiet thump sounds coming from the motors while slewing. Only a few per slew. Normally when using goto my stars will be on the chip after my alignment, not dead center but near.

Now they're not on the chip and a spiral search won't find them. I've not noticed the thump noise before, could it be the belt slipping or the motor missing steps?

I do have the dec and RA quite tight to keep the backlash at a minimum. Could it be that I have it too tight?

DIY AstroEQ / EQ5 Direct Drive
« on: May 03, 2016, 01:53:09 »
Hi, I'm wanting convert my EQ5 to a direct drive, bypassing the worm and using a timing belt to drive the worm gears. I'm a bit of a layman in these matters so any help would be great. Here are things I'm getting stuck on.

- Are there any timing belts that would fit the teeth on the worm gears of the EQ5?

- As far as I'm aware the lower the gear ratio the better for the motor, it doesn't have to spin as fast and it can produce more torque. So  I'm thinking of a timing pully like this:

With the correct gear and teeth of course.

How does this sound? Any help would be very appreciated.

AstroEQ Support / Slewing Goto problems
« on: April 29, 2016, 11:51:40 »
I have an EQ5 controlled via AstroEQ. I've noticed that when slewing east when I stop the slew it just keeps going, unless I tap west a few times and then the mount stops. Also occasionally when slewing north I'll have to hold down the button for quite a few seconds before the mount starts to move. I can hear the stepper motor but the mount doesn't seem to move.

These problems have been steadily getting worse over a few sessions and is effecting the accuracy of my gotos. Is this likely a simple case of backlash and/or belt tension that can be adjusted or something more serious. Any advice you have would be great.

I'm thinking it's more to do with the mount than the motors or AstroEQ, although my wiring is never brilliant at the best of times.

General Discussion / CG5 Info
« on: March 07, 2016, 16:34:21 »
I'm thinking that my mount my be an old Celestron CG5 not an EQ5 as I originally thought. Would I need to change any of my settings? As far as I am aware they were both clones of the Vixen SP mount so they should be the same mechanically.

I have been having problems with getting gotos to work in dec, they're out by miles although the RA seems OK.

General Discussion / Quiet EQMOD Slews, Loud GOTO's
« on: March 05, 2016, 05:21:20 »
HI again, I've finally got my Astroeq up and running. I've been playing with it indoors to get used to it and discovered when I slew with EQMod that there is just a quiet whine from the motors, even at 800x speed.

When I goto using Stellarium it is much louder even when I have the goto speed 100x. I'm testing the mount unloaded for now. The best way to descibe this sound is vibration/rattle.Is there anything I can do to make this quieter?

General Discussion / 6P6C Breakout board
« on: March 02, 2016, 22:18:13 »
Hi, could I use this board to connect the motor wires to the rj11 cable if I just use connections 2-5:

I've soldered the connections already and everything seems to be working, but I'm just not confident in my soldering work and this board looks quite sturdy.

General Discussion / Bare Wire Motor Connection
« on: February 19, 2016, 18:00:38 »
Hi Tom, I bought the astroeq with your supplied RJ11 wires but I've since decided that soldering the bare wires would make a more stable connection. Fixing an RJ11 socket to the mount would be a pain. How would I wire this motor:

http://www.omc-stepperonline.com/nema-14-bipolar-stepper-75v-05a-23ncm326ozin-14hs170504s-p-94.html

to your RJ11 cable if I was to cut one end off.

Motor connections are:

Thanks for your help.

DIY AstroEQ / Amp rating for power supply
« on: February 13, 2016, 03:32:14 »
Hi, I'm going to be using astroeq with two 0.5a stepper motors. If I'm using it out in the field would I be ok using a lower amp rating power supply like 1 or 2 amps rather than my 5 amp one.

General Discussion / EQ5 Bracket Missing Measurement
« on: December 26, 2015, 18:54:41 »
Hi TCWORLD, I'm getting an RA and Dec bracket made from your googlesketchup plans for the eq5 and nema 14 motors and there seems to be a missing measurement on both the RA And the dec plans.

Without these measurements I don't know where the bar is meant to be placed on the angle. Am I missing something?

Capabilities Question / New AstroEQ Bluetooth modules
« on: September 08, 2015, 18:54:14 »
Hi I remember talking to you on SGL a couple of months ago about your new bluetooth modules and that you where in the process of having them built and then tested. I was just wondering how the testing went and when they might be available for sale?
